e-connect 18 July 2024

Councillor Sarah Warren, deputy leader of Bath & North East Somerset Council

I am stepping in over the next two weeks while Councillor Kevin Guy is on leave and want to take this opportunity to highlight two transport consultations that we are really keen to get your views on.

Last week Kevin mentioned the consultations which are now live - Creating Sustainable Communities in North East Somerset: The Journey To Net Zero and the Active Travel Masterplan – each of them consider bold new ideas for future transport networks across Bath & North East Somerset.

It is important that everyone has their say on both of these important strategies because when adopted they will become the foundation on which we can secure funding to enable us to create better, healthy and more sustainable travel choices. This is your opportunity to help create a transport network - which works for everyone in Bath & North East Somerset - a reality.

Keeping with transport it is important to make you aware of essential safety works which are being carried out by National Highways that will have an impact on anyone planning to use a section of the A36 Warminster Road between Limpley Stoke and Monkton Combe. This will be closed between 12 August and spring 2025. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted. This is a National Highways scheme and we have worked with National Highways and Wiltshire Council so disruption is kept to a minimum. If you need to find out more or need to contact National Highways you can go to:

website: https://nationalhighways.co.uk/a36limpleystoke
call 0300 123 5000
or email: info@nationalhighways.co.uk

Finally, I want to pass on congratulations to the council’s parks team and many volunteers who are especially busy at this time of year. Their hard work has been recognised with prestigious Green Flag Awards - six of Bath’s much-loved parks and Haycombe Cemetery have been recognised as among the best green spaces in the country.  Well done to everyone involved. With Love Parks week just around the corner and as the school summer holidays get under way, I hope many of us will be out enjoying these fantastic green spaces.

Have a great weekend.

Join The Active Way for two FREE Dr Bike events during Love Parks Week:

  • 25/7, West Hill Recreation Ground, Westfield
  • 27/7 July, Tom Huyton Park, Radstock
