A message from Cllr David Wood, Deputy Leader of Bath & North East Somerset CouncilI am taking the reins for two weeks while Councillor Kevin Guy is away and begin this message by congratulating students in B&NES who received GCSE results today, as well as those who celebrated A-level results last week. Whatever the outcome, we are proud of you for your hard work and we wish you all the best with your next steps. Thank you to everyone who took part in our public engagement on a proposed new waste and recycling hub at Locksbrook Road in Bath. Your feedback has helped shape the planning application which can be viewed on the council website. The proposed facility would provide collection facilities for household waste and recyclables, scrap metal, large electrical items, cardboard, garden waste, bulky waste and soft furnishings, replacing the existing Bath Recycling Centre in Midland Road that has full planning approval for new and affordable homes. I would like to share with you two new short films about cultural and regeneration projects in Keynsham and Radstock. A fantastic light art installation near Keynsham leisure centre and new floorscape are the finishing touches to the High Street Cultural Programme and Heritage Action Zone projects which you can learn about in this video. You can also watch an update on the Vacant Unit Action Project, which revitalises vacant spaces on our high streets including in Radstock. Community arts organisation Little Lost Robot has welcomed more than 2,200 residents and 32 artists to the Old Printworks and Creative Twerton in Bath over the past two years, providing creative outlet in local centres and supporting artists into work. With the Paralympic Games soon beginning in Paris on August 28, it’s exciting news that seven University of Bath-based athletes have been selected to represent Britain. Dan Bethell (para-badminton), Suzanna Hext (para-swimming), Michael Taylor (para-triathlon), and Gemma Collis, Dimitri Coutya, Piers Gilliver and Oliver Lam-Watson (wheelchair fencing) will represent Team Bath. This is inspirational and I wish them good luck in their events. Looking ahead to the weekend after next, Twert Lush celebrations are returning to Twerton High Street on September 1. It’s the second year the council has run this exciting event in partnership with Bath Carnival to bring the carnival to the community. There’ll be circus skills, live music, Super Pirates and a puppet takeover with something for everyone. Don’t miss it! In the meantime, have a good bank holiday this weekend. |
