Bath & North East Somerset Council leader, Councillor Kevin Guy has welcomed the new Mayor of the West of England Helen Godwin.

"Please accept my personal congratulations on your election to this key role. I very much share your enthusiasm for the opportunities that lie ahead. I look forward to working closely with you and other local leaders so that we deliver across the West of England and attract the investment our communities need. Collaboration and partnership are vital to improving the lives of local residents, whether that’s on the Somer Valley Enterprise Zone, sustainable transport projects or tackling the climate emergency. I am very excited about this reset in our relations with the mayor. Thank you in particular for asking me to be your Deputy Mayor. It will be a great honour to support you at our combined authority. Once again, my congratulations and I look forward to our future discussions."

Helen Godwin was sworn in as the new Mayor of the West of England yesterday. The deputy role will rotate each year between the leaders of B&NES, Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
