Keynsham High Street road closures

Residents and motorists are being advised that Keynsham High Street is to be subject to a series of lane and road closures for up to two weeks from Monday 14 October.

The closures will enable investigative surveys to be carried out which are vital to informing the detailed design for planned public realm improvements in Keynsham town centre.

Bath & North East Somerset Council has secured £1.5 million towards the cost of the scheme which is aimed at helping to future proof the town centre by making the High Street more attractive and accessible. The money was secured from the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) through the Local Growth Fund (LGF), administered by WECA.

The council has written to local residents and businesses to inform them of forthcoming works, the majority of which will be carried out in the evenings and on Sundays to limit disruption to day time trade.

Councillor Joanna Wright, cabinet member for Transport Services, said: “These works are essential to our planned public realm improvements which will benefit both residents and businesses in Keynsham.  We’ve scheduled the road closures to keep disruption to a minimum and I’d like to thank local people for their co-operation and patience while the work is carried out.”

Work will be carried out under temporary traffic lights between 1800hrs and midnight Monday to Friday on High Street, Charlton Road, Rock Road and Temple Street.

A section of the High Street, between Charlton Road and Bath Hill will be closed on Sunday 20 October and Sunday 27 October between 0800hrs and 1800hrs.  The diversion route will be via Charlton Road, Ashton Way, Rock Road, Temple Street and Bath Hill.

Advance notices will be positioned along the route to warn drivers of the road closure.

Restricted vehicle access for residents within the road closure will be maintained whenever possible and access will be controlled by Traffic Marshals.

Work on Keynsham’s public realm improvements is expected to begin in Summer 2020 and be completed by Spring 2021. The planned improvements include: footpath decluttering, widening and resurfacing, better cycling and bus stop facilities and new street furniture, street lights and trees.
