Residents and businesses are being alerted to revisions in the diagrams and descriptions for site options at Farrington Gurney in the Local Plan Options Consultation.
Farrington Gurney is one of several areas identified by Bath & North East Somerset Council in the Options Document where options for potential development providing additional housing or jobs, together with the necessary supporting infrastructure are identified.
The original concept plan diagrams and descriptions for site options in Farrington Gurney were inaccurate and revised mapping and explanatory text for the two site options have now been uploaded. The revisions can be viewed on the Farrington Gurney pages online.
Any comments that have already been submitted will be considered in informing the Local Plan, but anyone who would like to submit new comments is welcome to respond using our online consultation form.
The revisions include the following changes:
- In Option A, the site boundaries have been redrawn. The original plan mistakenly included an area of residential garden within the potential development area.
- For Options A and B, the site and position of a new primary school is proposed next to the existing community facilities. It is not proposed to remove or replace the community facilities.
The concept diagrams for the site options are only indicative at this stage of the Local Plan and do not illustrate or articulate a specific proposal or masterplan.
Councillor Kevin Guy, leader of council, said: “Previous diagrams and description for the two site options at Farrington Gurney led to confusion and concern. The mapping and explanatory text for both of the site options have now been amended online. All comments already sent will be considered, but anyone is welcome to reconsider and send us further comments. We will be highlighting the revisions at our drop-in event today and I would encourage people to come along and discuss the options with council officers.”
The drop-session will take place at Farrington Gurney Village Hall today (13 March) from 3pm to 7pm.
Printed copies of the Options Document are available at Bath Central Library; Keynsham Library; Midsomer Norton Library; Bath Housing, Welfare and Advice Services, the mobile library and all community libraries. Easy Read copies can be requested by emailing: planning_policy@bathnes.gov.uk and there is an Easy Read version of the document online.

For those that are submitting their comments through the council’s website it should be noted that the submit button needs to be clicked twice and a reference number for the comment will be generated. Receipt of the reference number confirms that the comment has been submitted.
When the consultation closes, the issues raised in all comments and feedback will be considered and a Draft Local Plan will be produced, which will be subject to consultation. It will then be submitted to the Secretary of State and examined by an independent planning inspector in 2025. If approved by the inspector, it will be adopted by the council.
