Parliamentary candidates announced for Bath and for North East Somerset and Hanham

The list of candidates standing in the General Election for the parliamentary constituencies of Bath and North East Somerset and Hanham has been published.

On Thursday 4 July, voters in Bath and in North East Somerset and Hanham will vote to elect their new MPs.

The candidates standing in Bath are:

Voters in Midsomer Norton, Radstock, Westfield, Peasedown St John and the parishes in Bathavon South (Camerton, Claverton, Combe Hay, Dunkerton, Tunley, Englishcombe, Freshford, Hinton Charterhouse, Marksbury, Monkton Combe, Priston, Shoscombe, South Stoke and Wellow) are now in the Frome and East Somerset parliamentary constituency. Somerset Council is administering this constituency and details of candidates can be found on the Somerset Council  website https://www.somerset.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/general-election-2024/

In order to vote you must be a British, Irish or Commonwealth citizen (including Maltese and Cypriot), and your name must be on the electoral register. EU citizens are not entitled to vote at UK parliamentary general elections. 

If you are not on the electoral register at your current address, you must register to vote by midnight on Tuesday 18 June. It takes just five minutes to apply online at gov.uk/register-to-vote. If you have any queries, you can call our helpline on 01225 477333 or email elections@bathnes.gov.uk.

Voters have a range of options for casting their vote – in person, by post or by appointing someone they trust to vote on their behalf, known as a proxy vote. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 19 June – you can apply online at gov.uk/apply-postal-vote. The deadline to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024 – you can apply online at gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote.

If voting in person at the polling station, you will be required to show an accepted form of photo ID to the polling station staff. The full list of accepted forms of ID can be found at https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voting-and-elections/voter-id/accepted-forms-photo-id. Please note that the B&NES Discovery Card is not an accepted form of ID at polling stations.

Voters who do not have an accepted form of photo ID, can apply online for a free Voter Authority Certificate at https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate. Alternatively, an application form can be requested by calling 01225 477333 or emailing elections@bathnes.gov.uk. Completed applications must reach us by 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.

Will Godfrey, Acting Returning Officer for Bath and for North East Somerset and Hanham, said: “Please make sure you’re registered to vote in time for the deadline and if you are voting in person, please remember that you will have to take an accepted form of photo ID to the polling station.”
