Proposals to develop council-owned land to provide a new public recycling facility in Bath are on view from today (29 May).

Bath & North East Somerset Council has put forward a proposal to develop a site in Locksbrook Road, currently used by the council’s street cleansing activities, to replace the existing Bath Recycling Centre in Midland Road.

The proposed new recycling centre will provide collection facilities for residual household waste and recyclables, scrap metal, large electrical items such as washing machines and dishwashers, cardboard, garden waste, bulky waste and soft furnishings.

A face-to-face drop-in session will be held at the council’s former fleet works and MOT test centre in Locksbrook Road on Tuesday 18 June 2024 between 2pm and 6.30pm, giving residents an opportunity to study the plans, ask questions and give feedback. You can also make comments online until 30 June.

Councillor Tim Ball, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, said “We are sharing our proposals for household waste recycling facilities and welcome feedback. Our aim is to create a facility which allows people to continue to recycle and reduce their waste locally. The Midland Road site would then be developed for much-needed housing.”

The current Bath Recycling Centre at Midland Road will remain open until a new facility is ready to use. The recycling site was identified for redevelopment as part of the Bath Western Riverside regeneration project and has full planning approval for new affordable and market homes. Once an alternative recycling site has been confirmed, we will start building the first phase of affordable homes for social rent with the remaining affordable and market homes starting once the remainder of the site has been fully vacated.

The drop-in session will be held at the council’s former fleet works and MOT test centre on Locksbrook Road, BS31 1TW, opposite Horstman.

You can view the plans, provide feedback or register for project updates online at www.bathrecyclingcentre.co.uk . Comments can be made until 11.59pm on Sunday 30 June.

For further information, you can email hello@bathrecyclingcentre.co.uk or call 01225 667097.

A planning application will be submitted this summer.
