Bath and North East Somerset Council  has welcomed the government’s announcement of a major investment in high needs capital funding, with at least £3 billion committed nationally over the next four years. This funding will help create at least 50,000 new places for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in schools across England, ensuring ore children can learn and thrive closer to home.

Locally, the council is confident that this announcement enables it to continue with its planned development of Green Ways Academy and Sulis Academy, which are due to be delivered on the Culverhay site in Bath. This will benefit those families who currently have to go out of area to get the provision they need, and will also help the council finances by reducing what we have to spend on transport. The additional funding also enables us to consider how we can further roll out SEND spaces in existing schools or provide new resource bases. The council is committed to working closely with our partners and trusts to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

The council thanks the Department for Education for its continued support and look forward to improving SEND provision in our community.
