Councillor Kevin Guy, Leader of Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: "We are deeply saddened by the devastating attack on Oleksandriya on October 7. I am in regular contact with the local Mayor and have had personal experience of the horrors of war. That’s why I know its so very vital that those who are defending democracy know we are supporting and thinking of them, especially the families who have lost loved ones, those who have been injured, and residents whose lives have been torn apart by this violence.
“Bath has a longstanding relationship with Oleksandriya, and we stand in solidarity with its people at this incredibly difficult time. Through our friendship agreement, we have built strong connections with the city and have seen first-hand the resilience and courage its residents have shown in the face of unimaginable hardship.
"We remain committed to supporting the people of Ukraine and encourage anyone who can to support the Friends of Oleksandriya appeal, so that help can reach those affected as quickly as possible."
