Where to join the Coronation celebrations in Bath and North East Somerset

Coronation God Save the King

Bath and North East Somerset communities will come together to mark the Coronation with 44 street parties and events taking place across the district.

People are set to enjoy a range of celebrations, both public and private, during the extended bank holiday weekend.

Coronation events at Bath Abbey include a Royal Celebration Concert on Friday, May 5 and a live broadcast of the Coronation on the Saturday. There will also be special services on Sunday, May 7 with a drop-in family craft activity on the Monday.

There is a wealth of free events on offer at Bath & North East Somerset Council libraries on April 29 and May 6 including crown making, nature trails and a chance to contribute to a Coronation community garden made from recycled materials.

Other local public events include:

  • The King's Coronation Street Party, The Raven of Bath pub – Saturday 6 May 11am to 9pm, Queen’s Street, Bath
  • Batheaston Coronation Street Party – Sunday 7 May 12pm to 8pm, Riverside Park, Batheaston – contact Batheaston Parish Council
  • Keynsham Picnic in the Park– Sunday 7 May 12pm to 5pm, Keynsham Memorial Park.

The Visit Bath website also lists coronation events on its website

Bath & North East Somerset Council has supported residents with advice and guidance and an online event planning toolkit to ensure the celebrations will be safe and successful, with the waiving of road closure application fees.

Mandy Bishop, Chief Operating Officer, said: “The Coronation weekend is a fantastic opportunity for our communities to come together and celebrate this historic occasion. We’re delighted to have been able to approve the applications for many street parties and support people who are giving up their time to create memorable events for their neighbours. That’s what community is all about.

“We are also pleased to be offering free events at our libraries for people of all ages. We look forward to seeing the fun unfold as Bath and North East Somerset turns red, white and blue.”

The Coronation of their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla takes place on Saturday, May 6 at Westminster Abbey. On Sunday, May 7 there is the Coronation Big Lunch at which neighbours and communities are invited to share food and fun together. Also on that day is the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle.

The extra bank holiday on Monday, May 8 provides an opportunity to join The Big Help Out, encouraging people to try volunteering for themselves. Further information about the national Coronation events can be found here: Official Royal Coronation Weekend Guidance and on the interactive map.
