Celebrate the festive season at one of the UK’s most atmospheric landmarks. From torchlit afternoons and choir performances to steaming waters and festive drinks, The Roman Baths promises an unforgettable winter experience.
Just steps from the famous Bath Christmas Market, The Roman Baths offers a magical contrast to the city’s seasonal buzz—combining heritage, history, and holiday cheer in one unique setting. Escape the crowds and wander along original Roman pavements, uncover stories of Roman Britain in the museum, and sip mulled wine or hot chocolate from a pop-up bar overlooking the Great Bath. As dusk falls, flaming torches cast a warm glow across the water—creating a truly enchanting backdrop.
The Great Bath bar will serve mulled wine, hot chocolate, and a selection of festive drinks every afternoon during the Bath Christmas Market (27 November–14 December) and on festive weekends (18–21 and 27–28 December).
New for this year, the Great Bath will come alive with the sound of local choirs in ‘Winter Warmer’ sessions on 17, 18, 19 and 21 December. Seasonal songs beside the steaming waters will add a festive soundtrack to your visit.
Festive Fun for Families
Young explorers can follow a Saturnalia spotting trail, discovering how the Romans celebrated winter with traditions that echo today’s holidays. Join Hoot the Owl and hunt for festive objects around the museum – free with admission.
Celebrate 250 years since Jane Austen’s birth with a Georgian Christmas craft session, where children can create a greetings card featuring a Georgian building with a surprise behind the door. Drop-in sessions run on 20, 22 and 23 December, and are included in admission.
Shop Historic Gifts for the Holidays
The Roman Baths Shop is brimming with seasonal gifts inspired by Bath’s ancient heritage – from honey mead and golden chocolate coins to spa treats, artisan homewares, and gemstone jewellery. You’ll also find a Roman Baths chalet at the Bath Christmas Market on York Street, perfect for picking up unique gifts for history lovers.
Celebrate in Georgian Style
The Pump Room Restaurant offers indulgent festive dining in a stunning Georgian setting. Enjoy a luxurious Christmas afternoon tea – with a children’s version available during school holidays – or book a candlelit evening meal to celebrate the season in style.
