A Pride weekend that showed B&NES at its best Last weekend's Bath Pride was a wonderful celebration of the inclusive, welcoming and vibrant community we are proud to be part of here in Bath and North East Somerset. It was fantastic to see so many residents, visitors, community groups and organisations come together in a spirit of positivity, respect and celebration. The photo, featuring myself, the Chair of the Council Councillor Shaun Stephenson-McGall and the Mayor of Bath, Councillor Ruth Malloy, captures something important about Pride. It is a visible demonstration of our commitment to ensuring everyone feels they belong and can be themselves in our communities. Pride matters because equality, dignity and respect matter. While social media can sometimes amplify negative voices, the reality on our streets last weekend told a very different story. So many people came together peacefully to celebrate diversity and support one another. That sense of community, kindness and acceptance is something we should be proud of and continue to champion. As we head into the final Bank Holiday weekend of the summer, I hope you will take the opportunity to enjoy everything Bath and North East Somerset has to offer. Whether you're visiting one of our beautiful parks and green spaces, exploring the countryside, supporting local businesses, enjoying our heritage attractions or spending time with family and friends, there is plenty happening across the district for people of all ages. For many families, the end of the Bank Holiday weekend also signals the start of a new school year. I'd like to wish all pupils, students, parents, carers, teachers and school staff the very best for the term ahead. Starting a new school year brings fresh opportunities to learn, grow and succeed, and I know there is a huge amount of work taking place behind the scenes to ensure children and young people have the best possible start.
