People are being advised to plan their journeys from 28 May for four days when the A431 Kelston Road closes to allow urgent tree felling works.

Bath & North East Somerset Council is working with local land owners to fell 17 trees because their branches are posing safety issues to road users, particularly buses.

A diversion route will be in place for the duration of the closure, which extends between the A431 junctions with Bitton and Penn Hill Road in Bath. Signage will be in place in advance of the closure to warn motorists. The diversion route can be seen here.

The closure will coincide with the school half-term to minimise disruption to the traffic network.

Resident access will be maintained when possible but may be disrupted as works to narrower sections of the highway take place.

Councillor Manda Rigby, Cabinet Member for Transport said: “We will be carrying out works on the overhanging trees on the A431 Kelston Road from Tuesday 28 May to Friday 31 May to take advantage of reduced traffic during school half term week and minimise disruption to motorists.

“Unfortunately, these works will coincide with Wessex Water works on the A4 in Saltford so we are advising motorists to plan their journeys ahead of time and we apologise for the inconvenience and short notice but hope people will understand that the issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible.”
