Residents in Bath are being asked for their views on a proposal to change the name of Twerton electoral ward to Twerton & Whiteway, following public feedback gathered in a review of polling districts.
Bath & North East Somerset Council is putting the proposal forward in response to views expressed during its review of polling districts and polling places which was completed in November 2023.
Changing the name of electoral wards is a separate legal process outside the scope of the review. Potential changes to ward names require a public consultation by law before they can be considered for a decision.
The proposal to change the name of the ward from Twerton to Twerton & Whiteway will not involve any changes to ward boundaries or arrangements as a result. No other ward name changes in Bath and North East Somerset are being proposed as part of the consultation.
Residents can view the maps showing the boundaries of the Twerton ward and respond to the consultation here. The consultation runs until September 23.
Councillor David Wood, deputy Leader and cabinet member for Council Priorities & Delivery, said: “We want to hear residents’ views on the proposed name change, which we are putting forward after listening to the feedback we received in our review of polling districts. It’s important that we hear from as many people in the community as possible, and particularly those living in Twerton, before any decision is made.”
Following the consultation, all feedback received will be considered before a decision on whether or not to change the name of Twerton ward to Twerton & Whiteway goes before Full Council. There are 4,707 electors in the Twerton ward.
