Residents in Bath and North East Somerset who are from ethnic minority backgrounds are invited to discuss their experiences of accessing health and wellbeing services at a drop-in event in Midsomer Norton.

Bath Ethnic Minority Senior Citizens Association (BEMSCA) is holding a Building Links Day for people to find out more about the services they offer as well as give their views on local health services, on November 24 from 9.30am-11.30am at Unit 14 Community Centre in South Road.

Those attending will be able to meet with BEMSCA staff to find out how they are working to improve the support and care services for older residents in the community. Free drinks and cakes will be available.

BEMSCA offers support services across B&NES to older people from a range of ethnic minority groups and will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year. It offers a space at Fairfield House in Bath where older members of the community can meet and socialise with people from a similar ethnic background to themselves.

The organisation works with partners including the RUH, Age UK, Healthwatch, Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust and Bath & North East Somerset Council’s public health team.

BEMSCA said: “We are delighted that we are able to bring BEMSCA to the wider communities outside of Bath. This is a great opportunity to learn and network with other organisations but also to directly engage with older members within of the community to gather their views on accessing health and wellbeing services.”

Councillor Alison Born, cabinet member for Adult Services, said: “It’s important that local health and wellbeing services meet everyone’s needs regardless of their background or age. BEMSCA does some excellent work gathering insight into people’s lived experiences so I hope many older members of the community are able to attend.”
