Bath & North East Somerset Council is improving pedestrian and cyclist safety in Newbridge Road, Bath.
The improvements, driven by local ward members, will see the existing pedestrian island crossing point on A4 Newbridge Road removed and replaced with a new toucan crossing, a signalised crossing that allows both pedestrians and cyclists to cross at the same time. Other crossing points near the three-way junction between A4 Newbridge Road, Old Newbridge Hill and Brassmill Lane are also being made safer, with footways widened to improve accessibility and highway resurfacing works taking place.
The works are expected to take up to five weeks to complete and the council is advising people to plan their journeys until 29 August as the works take place, particularly during peak travel times.
Two-way temporary signals are in place on the A4 Newbridge Road at its junction with Old Newbridge Hill and Brassmill Lane.
Councillor Lucy Hodge, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Transport Delivery, said: “We’re improving the footways and three crossing points in Newbridge Road to make walking and wheeling journeys safer and easier. We’ve planned these works to take place over the school holidays when the roads are generally quieter to reduce disruption but please do plan your journeys, especially around busier travel times.”
Newbridge Park & Ride services are not affected and will run as normal. Bath’s three quick and easy Park & Ride services recently ranked second for the second year in a row in a national satisfaction survey and are currently operating an extended hours evening service.
Old Newbridge Hill is closed to vehicles as these works take place. A diversion route is in place and can be seen on one.network. Advanced notices were placed at the site ahead of works starting to inform motorists.
