Swings, toddler play equipment and new flooring have been installed at Whiteway Green play park after a £40,000 allocation of community funding from Bath & North East Somerset Council.
The new equipment has enhanced the park for younger children and complements the existing Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) which can be used by people of all ages.
The funding from the fifteenth round of the Bath Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) was granted following a proposal submitted by ward councillors for Twerton, Councillor Sarah Moore and Councillor Tim Ball.
Councillor Kevin Guy, council Leader, said: “This is a significant upgrade for Whiteway Green play park which will enable more children to get outside and have fun with friends and family. It’s great that we can allocate funds secured from developments to have a positive and lasting impact on our community. I look forward to seeing the park enjoyed for many years to come.”
The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a planning charge, introduced by the Planning Act 2008 as a tool for local authorities in England and Wales to help deliver infrastructure to support the development of their area.
From the overall Community Infrastructure Levy that is collected, Bath receives 15% of the receipts, which are allocated to The Neighbourhood Portion of CIL for Bath. In the absence of a parish council for Bath, the council has a statutory responsibility to allocate the funds.
