Council statement on Newton House, Twerton

guildhall in bath

Following the pausing of plans to close respite care at Newton House, Bath & North East Somerset Council has written to families to provide further information and reassurance about the services they receive.

The council has agreed to pause the planned closure pending the conversations currently taking place with families to ensure they have access to respite care appropriate to their needs. The closure process is paused while these assessments are completed and no decision will be made until suitable alternatives are in place. We wish to avoid disruption to provision.

The council has now written to families to reinforce how important it is that families can access short breaks, and to offer reassurance that it will work with Dimensions to ensure continued access to the current respite arrangements at Newton House until alternative respite arrangements are in place.

The letter also confirms that people receiving respite care at Newton House have been assigned a dedicated support officer to review their needs and to explore alternative respite arrangements. Where families have a respite need, this will be provided to them.

Anyone with any concerns or needing to discuss this further is encouraged to raise these directly with their support officer.
