Residents in Bath and North East Somerset wishing to help vulnerable people in their community are being invited to donate to the Community Contribution Fund.
Now in its fourth year, the fund was created by Bath & North East Somerset Council to give residents the chance to give to others on a voluntary basis.
All money raised goes to local charities, community and voluntary groups working to tackle inequalities in our area. The fund is administered by the council but is not used to supplement council services.
To date, residents have donated more than £44,000 to the fund with more than £41,000 already awarded as grants to community organisations working to support the most vulnerable people in the community.
For the 2024-25 financial year, the council wishes to offer grants of £500 for new projects that benefit B&NES residents aged 55 and over. The Community Contribution Fund needs to reach at least £5,000 in donations in order to open to applications.
The minimum contribution is £5 and there is no maximum.
Councillor Mark Elliott, cabinet member for Resources, said: “The Community Contribution Fund empowers community and voluntary groups to run small projects that bring about positive change in people’s lives. Any financial support that residents feel they could provide for these projects will make a real difference to vulnerable people in our communities.”
Previous projects supported by the fund include Warm Spaces, low cost or free food initiatives, mental health support, youth provision, emergency medical supplies and the refurbishment of community facilities.
