Bold new ideas for future transport networks in Bath & North East Somerset have been published today and the council is inviting people to have their say.
Bath & North East Somerset Council has launched consultations on two transport strategies aimed at giving local communities a significant voice in shaping the future of travel over the next 20 years.
The two strategies, Creating Sustainable Communities in North East Somerset: The Journey to Net Zero and the Active Travel Masterplan, have been developed over the last two years following extensive engagement with local communities and stakeholders.
Creating Sustainable Communities in North East Somerset: The Journey to Net Zero outlines proposals focused on four areas: Keynsham & Saltford, the Somer Valley, Hicks Gate and Whitchurch Village.
This transport strategy looks to provide more travel opportunities to enable people to choose to walk, wheel, cycle and use public transport. It also recognises that occasionally car usage is essential and necessary, when sustainable travel is not an option. It plays a crucial role in creating better connected, healthier and more sustainable communities.
The Active Travel Masterplan is a comprehensive plan that sets out the existing and future network of active travel infrastructure. It will enable walking, cycling, and other forms of active travel, ensuring safer, healthier, and more accessible transportation options for everyone. It will support all types of journey including commuting, education, leisure and tourism.
Public Consultation Events:
As part of the Council’s promise to give people a bigger say, we are hosting a series of drop-in events where people can learn more about the strategies and share their views. These events will take place from 3pm to 7pm on the following dates:
18th July – The Hollies Council Chamber, Midsomer Norton, BA3 2DP
22nd July – Keynsham Community Space, Keynsham, BS31 1HA
23rd July – Guildhall Brunswick Room, Bath, BA1 5AW
30th July – Whitchurch United Reformed Church, Whitchurch, BS14 0PQ
People from all areas are encouraged to contribute their thoughts and suggestions during the six-week consultation ensuring the strategies reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of communities.
An interactive map showcasing active travel routes across Bath and North East Somerset will also allow people to make suggestions for further active travel routes.
